The primary load on the composite disc introduces bending stresses.
The bending strength of the disc materials compared with stresses introduced
by the application of load on a suitable model will provide an indication of disc
strength performance.
A suitable model would be a four point beam. The four point beam test and
model subjects a beam to two point loads reacted by two supports. This test and
analysis introduces bending moment loads into the beam.
Aluminum data extrapolated from University of Purdue Four Point Beam Test.
Mic 6 Yield strength 15,000 psi Alcoa
6061-T6 Yield Strength 39,900 psi Alcoa
Laminate Strength Nominal from Composite Pro Laminate Program
Beams with a factor of Safety above 1 are adequate for a load of 500 lbf.
Strength analysis shows that the CFCD to be adaquate for bend strength
compared to Mic6 and 6016-T6 Aluminum
